Au Revoir Texas - 'Til I See You Again

All good things must come to an end. This is the end of my Texas adventures. When you will read this article, I will have arrived back in my home in France.

My internship was a great opportunity for me to discover Texas, which is a very beautiful place. When we evoke “Texas”, many people think “Cow-Boys”, “Barbecue” and “Country”. I heard country music and ate barbecue. I remember my first country bar in Katy, it was very funny. I was quite lost. The dress code was surprising as a lot of people wore a hat and boots. The atmosphere was very convivial and different compared to my French bars. I spent a very nice evening, and it was a great experience.

I also agree that BBQ is typical in Texas. The BBQ I ate was so good. Once again, the ambiance is very warm throughout Texas. In fact, when you go into a barbecue place, it is not just a restaurant. It is more like a very special place to eat some good meats and with a lot of decorations on the walls, for example, deer heads.

However, during my four months in Texas, unfortunately, I didn’t see any "Cow-Boys". It is maybe just a legend. I don’t know.

Texas has so many others things. For example, Austin, which is the Capital of this state, is a lovely city. Indeed, it is a mix between city and countryside. For example, it is impressive to see deer everywhere in the landscape.

In downtown, there are a lot of things to do like a visit to the Capitol, the Bullock Texas State History Museum, or even kayaking on Lady Bird Lake.

Austin has also several naturals spots to go swimming, which is really nice when the temperature is too hot. A few I visited are Barton Springs Pool, Deep Eddy Pool and Bull Creek. All these places were different, each unique in their own way and all were very nice and pleasant.

Another good thing about Austin is the music. Austin is well known as the "Music Capital of the World". They are music groups in every bar, which is so cool. I had the chance to attend to a live concert taping of Shakey Graves at Austin City Limits, which is the longest running music series in American television history.

Sunrise in Austin

I was surprised to find how much I enjoyed an early morning walk in Austin. The sunrise was very pretty and started my mornings off so nicely.

In Austin, there is a great diversity of restaurants featuring many types of food. I was lucky to try food from around the world - some BBQ, Mexican, French, Italian, Steakhouse, Vietnamese and Thaï.

Here a list of some of my favorites:

Wink

Jeffrey’s

Bufalina Pizza

Arro

Gardner

Italic

Elizabeth Street Café

Olamaie

Kin & Comfort (Thaï Food)

Licha's Cantina

The food truck Veracruz for tacos, and

Easy Tiger , a very original place, as it is a bakery and a beer garden. They also have some ping-pong tables!

Austin is a good place to spend time. My Texas adventures were great. And I met so many good and very nice people. Austin holds a special place in my heart, and I look forward to coming back to Texas in the future. Hope you enjoy some of my pictures in the gallery below.
