Max Kast @BroadbentWines: I got started in college working in #restaurants & I have a degree in #history so the connection to History that #wine has really excited me - from there it is all a matter of time i.e. history #SommChat

Max Kast @BroadbentWines: When I first got into the biz, popular #wines were the big fruit-forward bold era of #wines in the early 2000s & the era of high alcohol and extraction & transition of that era has moved now into popularity of the other spectrum of lower acid, lower alcohol movement #SommChat

Keeper Collection @keepercoll: Q fr #SommChat #Somm Max how has the transition been from being on the resto floor to going to @BroadbentWines distribution biggest differences and what is the learning curve?

Max Kast @BroadbentWines: Transition fr resto 2 distribution was fulfilling but there was a BIG learning curve. Working the floor is focused on #hospitality whereas N distribution it is largely focused on biz of #wine. The key component @BroadbentWines is 2 always have #hospitality N forefront #SommChat

Max Kast @BroadbentWines: #chinenblanc fr #Southafrica is 1 of the most exciting categories in #wine today in the world. Did you know that #SouthAfrica produces the largest amount of #Chinenblanc in the world today???? #SommChat

Max Kast @BroadbentWines: It is believed that #ChinenBlanc was first planted in #Southafrica in the late 17th century - lots of history here - most prominent grape then and today #SommChat

Christopher Lavin @madwino: The Skurfberg is a outcrop between Clanwilliam and the Atlantic, in the Citrusdal Mountain ward of the Olifants.

Max Kast @BroadbentWines: I am very excited about the diversity of the vineyards soils & Climates that it grows in #Southafrica including older vines like @SadieFamilyWine #skurfberg. Notice the bottle U shared is 2013. Even though wonderful to drink young, these #wines are also made to age. #SommChat

Max Kast @BroadbentWines: It can be very different all the time which is good. When I am on the road, it is meeting with lots of diff #restos and off-premise buyers, then nighttime tasting event or dinner after that…. #SommChat

Max Kast @BroadbentWines: Or it is meetings with other folks @BroadbentWines stategizing and creating ideas. Always trying to get a good run in each day. #SommChat

Max Kast @BroadbentWines: #riesling and #Chinenblanc for white grapes are very versatile BC they can make very diverse wines from dry to sweet to drink young and old. For red, #Grenache and #PinotNoir. PN for cooler climates and Grenache for warm climates #SommChat
