Peter Granoff @Enorider: Good morning all. Happy to be here and hope I can answer all of your questions on #SommChat today.

KeeperCollection @KeeperColl: @enorider You were the 15th #American to be titled Master #Sommelier, when did you decide you wanted to be a #MS and why? #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: I was approached by a few of the people that had passed and did not know @MasterSommUS existed. It seemed like the ultimate credential for anyone working in the on-premise #wine world. #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: At the time I was also seriously considering leaving the #wine industry, and I wanted to say I took it as far as I could. #SommChat

KeeperCollection @KeeperColl: @enorider You passed the #MS exam on the first attempt and was awarded #KrugChampageneCup to what can you achieve this rewarded success? #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: My success there is deceiving in that I realized after I took the test that I had been preparing for this exam in the last 10 years of my work. I highly recommend meditation so that you can be more relaxed in the exam setting. #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: Immediately prior to the Theory Exam you are put in a holding place. Everyone else was cramming, I sat with my back to the wall and mediated for an hour. I was told I was incredibly relaxed. I had a mantra: "It’s all there. It’s all there. It’s all there.” #SommChat

KeeperCollection @KeeperColl: .@enorider You are on the @MasterSommUS Board of Directors, what do you do on the board? #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: I am the Chair of the @MasterSommUS Finance Committee. This is probono work, as it is for all of my colleagues, who are on other committees. #SommChat

KeeperCollection @KeeperColl: Somm @enorider Have you traveled to any #wineries outside of the #US? If so, where? Any #wine regions on your bucket list? #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: I have traveled extensively, visited #Argentina #Uruguay #Chile #SouthAfrica #Australia #New Zealand #Greece #Italy #Spain #Portugal #France #Germany #Austria #Hungary #Turkey and #Japan for #sake. #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: I would like to return to #Southafrica and Australia among others I have visited and would like go to #Georgia #Canada and too many more to type #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: A busy night on the #restaurant floor that goes like clockwork is the same feeling that you would get if you had a flawless appearance in a stage production. I know from experience as I did a lot of theater work. #SommChat

KeeperCollection @KeeperColl: .@enorider You host @texsomiwa event yearly in #Sanfrancisco @FPWM, When is this scheduled for 2018 and what can people expect? #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: We will host @texsomiwa event @FPWM Sun., September 16 & it will feature many of award-winning #wines and many of the principles involved w/ those #wines. It is a walk-around tasting. Tickets will be available online and at the shop as we get closer to the event. #SommChat

KeeperCollection @KeeperColl: @enorider Can you tell us about @FPWM in #SanFrancisco? How many #wines do you typically have in the store and any areas of the #wine world that you specialize in?

Peter Granoff @Enorider: @FPWM Inventory is approximately 900-1000 selections, constantly changing & focused on smaller producers, small production & international in scope. #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: @FPWM We completely ignore the critics and focus totally on tasting wines we will sell. We don’t use any 3rd party reviews or scores in our merchandising. #SF store has been in box 15 yrs & #Napa store for 10 yrs. We R opening store in Mission Bay in #SF in 19. #SommChat

KeeperCollection @KeeperColl: @keepercoll - Do you think the @MasterSommUS pursuit is as important if your interest in wine is more on the retail/importing side and not necessarily on the floor of a Michelin rest? I'm a two X bridesmaid at #Certified and starting to rethink my goals/priorities. - #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: Going to give you straight answer-the credentials are definitely worth pursuing. However if you do not have resto experience at Michelin caliber level, is highly unlikely that you will get past Advanced Level of Exam. #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: The Advanced part of the MS exam is difficult and hard to fake. You may want to consider the MW as an alternate path. #SommChat

KeeperCollection @KeeperColl: I have read that you enjoy teaching - do you think there are opportunities in this area in the future @enorider ?

Peter Granoff @Enorider: Yes I do think there are opportunities in #wine Education. I think it is important to consider if you want to me an Independent Contractor or teach in a large organization that has a budget. #SommChat

KeeperCollection @KeeperColl: .@enorider You are a business owner in #Napa for @oxbowcheese, can you tell us about the #wine and #food pairings? What are some of your go-to #cheese and wine pairings? #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: @oxbowcheesewine is 1/3 artisanal #Cheese, 1/3 wine bar and 1/3 wine shop in downtown #Napa. The menu is simple & draws largely on the cheese portion. Some fav pairings are bloomy rind creamy cheeses with any good bubbly.... #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: Another fav pairing @oxbowcheesewine is full-bodied robust reds with aged goudas and cheddars & stinky washed-rind cheeses with rich Belgian Ales #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: At the risk of sounding self-serving, the caliber of the speakers, the quality of the producers that participate, and the passion and enthusiasm of the attendees is exceptional. #SommChat

KeeperCollection @KeeperColl: Q fr #SommChat #Somm @enorider Have you seen any major changes in consumer tastes over the years? If so, what are they?

Peter Granoff @Enorider: I have seen many changes in consumer tastes. Here are just a few: Shift away from heavily oaked reds & whites, a move to lighter and more elegant wines, esp. reds, a precipitous drop in #Australian #wines which is now returning, and a current fascination w/ anything that is a "blend”. #SommChat

Peter Granoff @Enorider: About #wine, that the #SF Bay Area is a brutally competitive market & may be the best place on the planet to be a #wine consumer. About #Hospitality, Good Customer Service is always good customer service no matter what the setting. #SommChat
